Building approvals across Australia rose 1.9% (seasonally adjusted) to 13,166 dwelling units in January, compared with 12,920 in December. The total for the 12 months to January was 5.1% higher than a year earlier.
The Housing Industry Association, however, has described the figures as ?a very modest recovery?. It says building approvals were effectively flat over the three months to January.
On a regional basis, the biggest improvements in approvals were seen in NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
